Inspired by nature, animals, and the quiet beauty of the everyday, Maureen Chapdelaine is a New England-born artist whose creative journey began with a black lab puppy named Oliver. Her work—rooted in texture and storytelling—blends the charm of woodland creatures, the calm of coastal scenes, and the power of equine life in the South. Now based in Charleston, SC, Maureen finds endless inspiration in trail rides, horse farms, and the rhythmic echo of Belgian horses outside her studio window.

It is often said that it’s the little things in life that can make a big difference.

Years ago, bringing Oliver into our home, a 15-pound black lab puppy, seemed a simple solution to having become “empty nesters”. One year and 80 pounds later, that bundle of fur had changed my life.

Artist Susan Patla Madigan emphasized the importance of texture in our work: the way something would feel if it were touched. Texture pulls the viewer in. I apply this principle in all my work.
